The town is famous for its wide beaches with very fine sand and also a popular chocolate factory.

Wide endless beaches

The beaches of Anglesea stand out for their width, but also for their variety and length. They stretch for many, many miles far beyond the town, so while you'll always share the beaches near the centre of Anglesea with other travellers, further away from the centre the beaches are usually completely deserted.

The local beaches are some of the cleanest along the Great Ocean Road and there's not much seaweed on the shore either.

Facilities in the form of toilets and showers are only near the car park and information centre at this location.

Incredibly good chocolate shop

About 2km from Anglesea towards Torquay near the main road, be sure to visit the famous chocolate and ice cream shop.

Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie is not just a shop, but you can try different workshops and make your own chocolate.

It is open every day from 9am to 5pm.

Shops and cafes in the centre

Anglesea town centre is the perfect place for a short stop during a road-trip.

You'll find several shops selling clothing, sporting goods and of course souvenirs.

Anglesea excels with great bakeries and cafes and of course there is also the usual IGA supermarket (open 8am-7pm).

Tips for hotels

Anlgesea is not exactly one of the more popular places to stay as it is relatively at the start of the Great Ocean Road and tourists tend to stay in Lorne or Apollo Bay.

Even so, there are plenty of accommodations here that will be of particular use to swimming enthusiasts, as Anglesea really is one of the best beach resorts on the Great Ocean Road.
