One of the hardest things about travelling around Australia is choosing which places to stop and which ones to skip. If you head north from Sydney on your way to Brisbane, the places you visit will present themselves to you. Places like Port Stephens, where you can sandboard down sand dunes or swim with dolphins, have to be on your Bucket List.

Byron Bay and the Gold Coast are also inevitably among the next stops. Brisbane's dominant feature is the river running through the city, which creates the city's atmosphere. The Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, located about 20 minutes from downtown, is considered the largest and oldest koala sanctuary in the world.

If you have a little more time, continue further north of Brisbane, and head to Fraser Island and the Sunshine Coast.
