Getting from Jakarta Soekarno Hatta Airport

Jakarta

The most convenient and straightforward way to get from Soekarno-Hatta Airport to downtown Jakarta is via ride-sharing apps Grab or Gojek or regular taxis. However, prices from the airport to the city centre are up to 2x higher than the other way around.

Allow plenty of time when travelling to the airport by taxi or bus, as the standard 50-minute ride can stretch to 90 minutes due to rush hour traffic.

Public transport is provided by a special train line and also by many DAMRI bus lines running to various locations in Jakarta.

Grab / Gojek

Using the popular Grab and Gojek taxi apps is very popular and convenient in Indonesia.

You always know the price in advance and the amount is automatically charged to the card you enter in the app. In addition, both Grab and Gojek have clearly marked stations outside all terminals where you can wait for a car or order a ride with the help of an employee if you don't have the app downloaded yet.

Prices are dynamic and are calculated according to current demand.

We always recommend comparing prices on both apps as they can vary greatly. In addition, if you are using one of the apps for the first time or very often, there may be various discounts.

The 10 best hotels in Jakarta

Grab / Gojek tends to be the cheapest way to get from the city centre to the airport when travelling with 2 or more people, with prices starting at 124 000 idr.

On the other hand, from the airport to the city centre, the price usually doesn't drop below 245 000 idr and therefore cheaper to take the train or bus, even if you are travelling with two people.

Regular taxis

In Jakarta, taxi drivers drive according to the meter.

You will be shouted at by the chasers of each company as you exit each terminal, however they are all official employees and the prices for standard taxis are the same.

You will not encounter fraudulent taxi drivers at Jakarta Airport.

So you shouldn't pay more than the fare from the airport to the National Monument. 250 000 idr. The prices are the same when going from the center to the airport.

At the airport, you can order a taxi directly from the counter of one of the companies or from the machine at the stand. You can also pay by card. To get from the city centre to the airport, you can order a taxi through your hotel or by simply waving on the street.

Train

As of 2017, there is a train to the airport "Airport Rail Link" referred to as the A line on maps.

The station is located between terminals 1 and 2. From all terminals, the only way to get to the station is by the free automatic airport train that runs once every 13 minutes. The journey time from Terminal 3 to the station is about 6 minutes, while from Terminals 1 and 2 it is about 1 minute.

Walking from the terminals to the train station is not possible.

Fares

Although this is part of Jakarta's suburban train network, a special fare applies and fares cannot be paid with transport cards used to pay for other train, metro and bus lines in Jakarta.

One ticket to any station in the centre costs 70 000 idr.

You can only pay at the machines with a credit card. You can also pay cash at the ticket office in the station when going from the centre to the airport. On the way from the airport to the centre you do not have this option.

Timetable and route

The train runs to Manggarai station, where you can change to regular suburban lines in the direction of Old Jakarta or Gambir station.

For travel to the modern city centre, use Sudirman station.

For complete information on getting around the city, including maps of all train lines, see our Jakarta travel guide.

During the day, the interval between connections is 30 minutes, with the journey to the centre taking around 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, on the official Jakarta commuter rail website commuterline.id/jadwal-kereta and on the Indonesia airport trains website railink.co.id/schedule, the line between downtown Jakarta and Jakarta Airport is missing, although it is normally in service.

DAMRI buses

You can also take advantage of the DAMRI buses that run across Jakarta to several destinations.

The individual lines usually do not stop anywhere along the way between the airport and their destination.

Stops can be found in front of all terminals and are marked with signs Public Bus.

Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines or directly from the ticket office at the stop. Ticket offices are also located at stations in the city centre, where you can always buy a ticket before boarding the bus.

Fares can only be paid by card and not in cash.

TransJakarta buses

Since 2023, the airport is also served by the SH1 feeder route of the TransJakarta bus system, which is by far the cheapest option to get to the airport.

However, the route is primarily for employees. For example, you cannot buy a ticket at the airport, so unless you already have one of the transport cards from a previous visit to Indonesia, it is not possible to use this connection.

In addition, the stop is not at either terminal, but is located on the main road between terminals 1 and 2 (see map), from which the station can be reached via the car park on an unmarked footpath.

The SH1 line runs to Kalideres terminal in the west of Jakarta, from where you can continue to the city centre on express buses 3 and 3F.

Fares are 3 500 idr on each line, so the total from downtown is 7 000 idr.
