Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport operates three large terminals. The complex is huge and it is not convenient to move between the terminals on foot, but only by automatic train or shuttle bus.

Terminals 1 and 2 are original, architecturally shaped like a semicircle and are quite outdated. All terminals are very well equipped with services.
There is always plenty of seating after security check in all terminals.
- Terminal 1 - the public area is located outside but is covered by a roof. You will only be admitted to the check-in desks upon presentation of your ticket or boarding pass.
- Terminal 2 - security checkpoint is just outside the departure gates and you can access the check-in desks and restaurants behind them without being checked.
- Terminal 3 - the most modern and largest terminal is divided into an international section (left) and a domestic section (right). The terminal is huge but very clear.

Visa-on-arrival - where to buy?
When you arrive from abroad, you must purchase a visa before attending normal immigration control.
A quicker option is to purchase your e-visa from home, avoiding the Visa-on-Arrival counter. You can apply for an e-visa exclusively through the official website evisa.imigrasi.go.id. However, this option often does not work because some foreign phone numbers do not receive a confirmation code by text message.
Visas are sold at special counters before the immigration check and cost 500 000 idr.
Payment can be made by card (for example, Revolut allows you to maintain an account in Indonesian rupiah) or in foreign currencies at the following conversion rates:
- 32 eur
- 35 usd
- 45 sgd
- 50 aud
Once your visa has been processed, you can proceed to the automated passport gate and do not need to visit the counter with a border official.
Transfer between flights
Jakarta is a huge transfer hub and you will be connecting here often.
The information below is for guaranteed transfers if you have both flights purchased as one booking.
The vast majority of guaranteed transfers will take place within a single terminal. If you must change terminals, you must always leave the transit area and use the public area to move to the next terminal.
There are no buses connecting the terminals through the airside.
International -> Domestic
Upon arrival, you must purchase a visa (or complete an e-visa online prior to departure), go through immigration, and walk out into the public area.
Then, in both Terminal 2 and 3, you will take the escalator up to the 2nd floor where you will go through security to the departure gates. Terminal 1 does not clear international flights.
- Baggage - in some cases it will be transferred automatically (e.g. on Garuda flights), but sometimes you will need to collect it and re-check it in
- Average transfer time - 70 minutes at Terminal 2 or 85 minutes at Terminal 3 (can be longer if you have to collect your baggage)
- Immigration check - yes
- Security check - yes
If you need to change terminals, after going through immigration and picking up your baggage if necessary, follow the signs for "SkyTrain" and take the automated train to the next terminal. In this case, the average transfer time will increase to approximately 90-120 minutes.
Domestic -> International
Upon arrival, follow the signs for "International Transfer". If you do not have a boarding pass for the connecting flight, there are special transfer desks in both terminals 2 and 3 where you can obtain a boarding pass.
Baggage will be automatically transferred in some cases. This applies to connecting flights on Batik Air, Lion Air, Garuda + SkyTeam alliance partners.
Even if your baggage is automatically transferred, you must always leave the transit area, take the escalator or elevator to the 2nd floor in the public area of both Terminals 2 and 3 and go through immigration and security.
- Baggage - in some cases it will be transferred automatically, but sometimes you will have to collect it and re-check it in

Domestic <-> Domestic
After getting off the plane, proceed through the special "Transfer" corridor. At the end of this there are escalators or shuttle buses that will take you directly to the departure gate area.
Terminals 1 and 2 do not go through security, while Terminal 3 does.
- Baggage - will be transferred automatically
- Average transfer time - 30 minutes at Terminal 2 and 45 minutes at Terminal 3
- Immigration check - no
- Security check - no at Terminals 1 and 2; yes at Terminal 3
International <-> International
Upon arrival, please seek out the special transfer desk if you do not already have a boarding pass for a connecting flight.
If you do have a boarding pass, you can follow the "Transfer" signs straight away. You do not need to leave the transit area.
Take the escalator up to the 2nd floor, where you'll go straight to the departure gate area.
- Baggage - will be transferred automatically
- Average transfer time - 20 minutes in Terminal 2 or 30 minutes in Terminal 3
- Immigration check - no
- Security check - no in Terminal 2; yes in Terminal 3
Transfer on your own
If you schedule a transfer in Jakarta with two separate bookings, allow plenty of time. In all cases, you must always leave the transit area and check in again, even if you are travelling with hand luggage only.
The airport is large and delays or even cancellations are very common, especially for domestic flights.
The ideal time to change planes is 4-5 hours, but the best way to do this is to leave 1 full day in Jakarta and explore the city.
Getting between terminals
All terminals are separated from each other and it is not possible to walk comfortably between them.
There are two ways to move between the buildings.
SkyTrain
An automated airport train serves all terminals as well as the train station running from the airport to downtown Jakarta.
SkyTrain stations are always on the 2nd floor level. It is always about a 3 minute walk from the terminals to the SkyTrain station.
- Price - free
- Frequency - 13 minutes
- Operating hours - 6:00 am to 24:00 pm
Travel time between stations is always about 2 to 3 minutes. The longest journey is from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1, where you will travel for approximately 9 minutes.
Shuttle bus
You will use the shuttle buses especially at night when the automatic train is not running. The bus always stops directly in front of the terminal at its departure level (so you always have to go up to the 2nd floor from arrivals, or move about 150 meters to Terminal 1).
There are two bus options: a paid bus (price 5 000 idr), but which takes detours through various office buildings, and a free bus, which has a more direct route.
- Price - free
- Frequency - 15 minutes (20 minutes at night)
- Operating hours - 24/7
The journey times are as follows:
- Terminal 1 -> Terminal 2 - approx. 20 minutes (the bus still stops at the staff car park)
- Terminal 2 -> Terminal 3 - approx. 5 minutes
- Terminal 3 -> Terminal 1 - approx. 15 minutes (the bus also stops at the cargo terminal)
- Terminal 3 -> Terminal 2 - approx. 35 minutes (the bus stops at the cargo terminal, at Terminal 1 and at the staff car park)
The stops are located at the following locations:
- Terminal 1 - near departures 1A
- Terminal 2 - in the middle of the terminal near the automatic train station on the 2nd floor (departures)
- Terminal 3 - in the middle of the terminal on Level 2 (departures)
