Algeria's largest airport is located about 17 km southeast of the capital Algiers and is the main base of Air Algerie.
The airport is named "Houari Boumediene" after the former Algerian president.
The modern and very spacious airport serves as the main international gateway to the country, with a large number of international routes, mainly to Western and Southern Europe (most flights are to France and Spain), the Middle East and Egypt.
There is also a long-haul service from Algiers to Montreal, Canada.
