The airport has two terminals: domestic and international. They are about 300 metres apart and can be reached via a well-marked outdoor walkway.
The International Terminal (also known as Terminal West or Terminal 4) is a very modern, spacious and uncluttered building with plenty of seating after security.
The Domestic Terminal (also known as Terminal East or Terminal 1) is an older building but has undergone significant upgrades. This terminal is also spacious with ample seating.
Transfer between flights
Algiers is a major transfer airport and the very clear and fast transfer procedure is tailored to this.
To use the direct transit procedure, you must always have both flights purchased as one booking or travel with hand luggage only and have a printed boarding pass for the connecting flight (a boarding pass on your mobile phone will not suffice).
International <-> International
You do not need an Algerian visa to transfer between two international flights.
Follow the "Transit" signs that will take you to the counter where you show your boarding pass, passport and fill out a short form to enter Algeria even though you are not entering Algeria.
This is followed by a police check of your passport and form and a standard security check.
Queues usually form for a maximum of 10 minutes.
- Average transfer time - 15-30 minutes
- Luggage - will be transferred automatically
International <-> Domestic
When transferring from an international to a domestic flight within Algeria or vice versa, you must always leave the transit area completely, move between terminals and undergo standard check-in and security check procedures.
Immigration checks are carried out at Algiers Airport.
- Average transfer time - 75-100 minutes
- Baggage - you must collect and re-check in
Domestic <-> Domestic
Between your two flights within Algeria, you will use a special corridor for connecting passengers during which you will go through security.
- Average transfer time - 10-25 minutes
- Baggage - will be transferred automatically
Overnight stay at the airport - opening hours
Both terminals are open 24/7. There are relatively few seats in the public area, with significantly more space after security check.
However, all seats are metal and have armrests and the airport is often very cold.
There are no comfortable rest areas.
