Houari Boumediene Airport is connected to the city centre by train, public buses and taxis.
The journey to the centre takes about 20 minutes. The train costs 80 Algerian dinars, while a taxi costs about 1,350 dinars.
Taxi / mobile app
There are no mobile apps like Uber, Bolt or Careem operating in Algiers. In Algiers, the local Yassir app works only with a local Algerian sim card.
However, there are a large number of official taxis available and their stand is in front of both terminals. Avoid taxi offers in the arrivals hall. Official taxi drivers are always waiting at their cars at the checkpoint.
Payment is cash only and the price to the city centre is approx. 2 000 dzd. However, taxi drivers can also accept foreign cash, especially euros and US dollars (15 eur / 15 usd).
SNTF train
The SNTF, Algeria's state-owned railway, runs to the airport. The station is underground at the national terminal and the entrance is clearly signposted from both terminals. From the international terminal, the walking distance is approximately 15 minutes.
Modern electric trains run to the centre and train travel is generally very safe in Algeria.
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office in cash only for 80 dzd. The price is the same to all stations.
The train to the airport stops at the following stations:
- Bab Ezzouar - a station in a district close to the airport and outside the centre.
- El Harrach - a station on the eastern edge of Algiers outside the centre
- Agha - the main station in the historic centre of Algiers
The train to Agha station takes 20 to 25 minutes.
- Frequency - irregular interval, runs once every hour to once every 120 minutes
- Last train from the airport - 22:25
- First train to the airport - 6:00
Check the official sntf.dz website for the current timetable, but it also shows the services that are not actually running. So you can always find out the exact information at the station.
City bus
ETUSA's 3 city bus lines also stop in front of both terminals.
The ticket price for all lines is 50 dzd and is payable in cash only to the conductor inside the bus.
- Line 39 - goes to Audin station in the centre of Algiers
- Travel time approx. 50 minutes
- Frequency - irregularly once every hour to once every 2 hours
- Line 100 - goes to Place des Martyrs, one of the main squares in the historic centre of Algiers
- Journey time approx. 50 minutes
- Frequency - irregularly once every hour to once every 2 hours
- Line 178 - goes to the main bus station Caroubier
- Journey time approx. 30 minutes
- Frequency - irregularly 1x per hour to 1x every 2 hours
Buses run very irregularly and a much more reliable mode of transport is by train or taxi.
The Yassir taxi app works in Algiers (Algerian SIM required).
The train from the centre arrives at Terminal East, which is the domestic terminal, and it's about a 15-minute walk to the international terminal. Don't throw away your ticket, they check it when you leave the station. Don't rely on the timetable listed on the website, it also shows the services that are not running. Better to check directly at the station on the board, the schedule for the whole day is always lit.
I have seen 100 bus stops in the city, never a bus.

Thanks for the valuable up-to-date info from a not-so-visited airport! I will edit.
