LATAM was formed in 2015 through the merger of LAN Airlines and TAM, two of South America's largest airlines.
It is now the largest airline in Latin America and its routes cover most of the South American continent.
LATAM has its largest bases at the airports of Santiago de Chile, Guarulhos in Sao Paulo, Lima in Peru and Bogota in Colombia. However, LATAM operates smaller bases in multiple cities across South America.
LATAM's fleet includes over 160 Airbus A32S, Boeing 787 and Boeing 767 aircraft.
The airline is split into several different companies that use different IATA and ICAO codes than the parent LATAM (LA/LAN), but for passengers it is always the same company with a single website and terms and conditions.
- LATAM Chile (LA/LAN)
- LATAM Brasil (JJ/TAM)
- LATAM Peru (LP/LPE)
- LATAM Colombia (4C/ARE)
- LATAM Ecuador (XL/LNE)
- LATAM Paraguay (PZ/LAP)
The largest competing airline is Avianca, which operates in similar markets to LATAM.
