The beaches along the wide Yokohama Bay stretch along the westernmost tip of Oahu and are among the most photogenically beautiful on the island.

Yokohama Bay lies in a remote area quite far from the larger villages and towns at the foot of the stunning green hills of the Kuaokala Nature Reserve.

Swimming and beaches

The local beaches are among the most relaxed and spacious on Oahu. They are all covered in fine white to yellowish sand that flows into the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean.

The two main beaches in Yokohama Bay are Keawaula Beach and Makua Beach, both of which always offer plenty of privacy and, most importantly, spectacular views.

The bottom drops off quite steeply here and it's not just surfers who enjoy the awesome waves.

You won't find any bars or sun lounger rentals on the beaches, only free public toilets.

Accommodation

Yokohama Bay is located in a really remote area with no hotels or guesthouses. The nearest town, where you can stay mainly in private apartments, is Makaha, 10 km away, but offers are really few and usually booked many months in advance.

How to get there

All the beaches on Yokohama Bay can only be reached by rental car, there are no buses. From Honolulu, it takes about an hour to get here after a comfortable 60 km drive to the end of the H1 highway and then to the very end of Highway 93.
