Laniakea Beach

Laniakea Beach

The inconspicuous Laniakea beach, located on the north-west coast, attracts not only people but also the empty environment of fine white sand.

The main attraction is the northern tip of the beach, where giant tortoises regularly and almost daily appear right on the beach.

You'll most often encounter the turtles at the very northern end of the beach, preferably around midday, when you're most likely to spot them. However, please be considerate and don't approach the turtles closer than 10 metres to avoid stressing them unnecessarily.

Hotels by the beach

You generally won't find many accommodation options on the northwest coast. You can find a few hostels and cheaper guesthouses in the town of Pupukuea, about 5 km away.

How to get there

It's easy to take a bus directly to the turtle sighting site, as the bus stop is only about 20 meters from the beach. The 60 and 88A bus lines stop here, running from Honolulu or Turtle Bay.

If you're heading to Laniakea Beach by car, you can park in the impromptu parking lot just off the road a few meters from the beach.
