Waimanalo Beach

Waimanalo-beach

One of the longest beaches on Oahu, this 6.5 km beach has everything you expect from a typical Hawaiian beach.

The fine white sand, the ample width of the beach and the exotic-looking palm alleys lining the shoreline will simply delight you and make it hard to drive back to the whirlwind of Honolulu.

The cheapest accommodation on Oahu

Swimming and beach facilities

Waimanalo Beach is on the windward east side of Oahu, but the wind is pleasant, not aggressive, and cools you down nicely on hot days. The waves here are rather smaller ideal for swimming and bodysurfing.

Although the beach is close to the town of Waimanalo with the main ring road, it maintains its natural character. However, you will come across picnic spots, small bistros and snack bars and further along the road, for example, a kayak rental shop.

You can use the free public toilet at the parking lot.

Beachfront accommodation

The availability of beachfront accommodation is difficult. The only facilities are luxury apartments Waimanalo Beach Cotteges with prices around 293 eur per night for a whole cabin, which is an affordable average for Oahu.

The closest town with a larger supply of hotels is Honolulu.

How to get there

Waimanalo Beach is just off Highway 72 and can be reached in about 35 minutes after a 26 mile drive from downtown Honolulu. Free parking is available right next to the beach.

Waimanalo Beach is also easily accessible by bus. The 67 line (Honolulu, Kailua, Waimanalo) and the 69 line (Kaneohe, Kailua, Waimanalo, Sea Life Park) run here.
