Treat yourself to a different view of the city than Diamond Head or Punchbowl Hill, and take a drive to Tantalus Lookout. You'll have downtown Honolulu in the palm of your hand, plus great sunset views.

The Tantalus Lookout sits on the border between the residential area of the forest park and the dense jungle of the rising mountains, and will provide a beautifully serene setting and a respite from the hustle and bustle of the big city that will remain far below you.

You can't get to Tantalus or anywhere nearby by public bus, you'll just have to use your own car. A tarmac road, Road Top Drive, leads up to the viewpoint, at the end of which you will stop at a free car park.
