he hike up Mount Olympus is one of the most accessible hikes into the true nature of Oahu, as the trail begins within the city limits of Honolulu. It takes you into the heart of Hawaii's nature of dense green forests and breathtaking views from the ridge trails.
Length and difficulty of the trek
The Mount Olympus trek is called the Wa'ahila Ridge Trail and begins in the residential neighborhood of St. Louis Heights. The trail can be shortened slightly by starting in the higher elevation Manoa area.
The total round trip distance is 9.5 miles and is rated as challenging. A large part of the trail is a very narrow muddy path winding up a steep slope, but there are no downright dangerous sections, just quite a lot of elevation gain. Good hiking shoes are a must.
How to get to the start of the trek
At the start of the main Wa'ahila Ridge trail, you can stop for free at the small official parking lot. However, the drive here is through narrow streets of a residential area and can be very lengthy and sometimes confusing.
However, you can easily get here from the Waikiki area by taking the number 14 bus to the terminus. To reach the start of the Kolowalu Trail, which can be shortened by about 2 km, take the Line 6 bus.
