Piccadilly Circus

Piccadilly

Piccadily Circus is probably the most famous transport hub in London. And even though it's just a crossroads, there's so much to see.

The most famous symbols are probably the Shaftesbury Memorial and Eros, the fountain with the angel of Christian charity standing on one leg on top.

The cheapest hotels in central London

Piccadilly Square is often compared to New York's Times Square for its never-ending bustle and the feeling of being in a real big city.

Neon signs

Perhaps the most famous image of Piccadily Circus is the now iconic corner building of Shaftesbury Ave and Glasshouse Street, with a huge rounded advertising banner occupying almost the entire facade. Day and night, thousands of LEDs radiate advertising for the world's most famous brands.

It probably comes as no surprise that the advertising space on Piccadilly is one of the most expensive in the world, if only because this giant glowing screen appears on almost every postcard and promotional material from London.

Accommodation near Piccadilly

The area around the square is one of the most lucrative in London.

It is centrally located at the crossroads of Covent Garden, Soho and Mayfair, at the heart of all the action. You'll mostly stay in luxury, expensive hotels, but nearby The Z Hotel Piccadily with prices from 147 eur per night will satisfy the casual traveller.

You can also stay almost right on the square at the famous luxury 5* hotel Cafe Royal.

How to get to Piccadily Circus?

Below the square, two metro lines cross at Piccadily Circus station: the brown Bakerloo line and, of course, the blue Piccadily line, which is named after the area.

Bus lines 9, 12, 14, 19, 23, 38, 88, 94, 139, 159, 453 also pass directly through the square
