Where to shop?

Portugal's remotest region has its own specifics, so it's good to know where and especially when the local shops are open.

Vila do Corvo has a surprisingly large number of options for your everyday grocery or drugstore shopping.

  • Loja do Cabral - the largest supermarket on the island, usually open from 9am-6pm, 10am-5:30pm on Saturdays and remains closed on Sundays. However, opening hours change frequently due to staff shortages and are always updated on the shop' s Facebook profile.
  • Loja da Fátima - small shop in the old town, open daily 9:00-12:00, 14:00-18:00, closed on Sundays.
  • Pedras a Pedras Mercearía - small shop in the old town, open daily 10:00-13:00, 14:30-18:00, closed on Sundays.
  • Loja da Maria João - shop in the west of town, open daily 10:00-12:30, 14:00-18:00, closed on Sundays.

Where to eat?

Definitely the most popular among locals and with the longest opening hours is the fast food BBC | Caffé & Lounge on the main street between the airport and downtown.

It serves as a restaurant during the day and a bar in the evening, and even hosts occasional events. Find out more on the official Facebook profile.

It is open from 8:00 am to 0:00 am on weekdays, from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am on Saturdays and from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm on Sundays. The prices are very reasonable and you can eat here from 6 eur.

The more expensive tourist restaurant Caldeirão can be found next to the airport. Check the Facebook page for current opening hours (usually 9am-9pm).
