How to get around the small island of Corvo?

As a tourist, you basically have only two options for getting around Corvo - with a tour operator (car or van) or on foot.

Tourist agencies

The only form of transport for visitors is provided by several local tourist agencies.

They provide transport from the port or airport in Vila do Corvo to the main local attraction - the volcanic crater Caldeirão.

The agencies usually offer the following three types of tours:

• 10 eur - round trip from Vila do Corvo to the Caldeirão crater and back (15 minutes break for photos at the top), total trip takes about 45 minutes
• 15 eur - return trip from Vila do Corvo to Caldeirão Crater, return after 2.5 hours. At the top you will have enough time to descend to the bottom of the caldera or go around the caldera
• 20 eur - tour of the whole of Corvo Island, including a 15-minute stop at the top of Caldeirão

How to book a transfer?

We recommend booking your transfer with these tour agencies at least 1 day in advance.

Online booking in advance is possible, for example with Corvo Travel.

You can also book a transfer on the spot by phone, and all the accommodation has contacts for all the local tourist agencies.

You can also try to pick up a van or car on the spot without booking. They are always available in large numbers at the port and airport at the time when the tourist boat arrives (usually between 9:00 and 10:30) or the plane lands. In case there are vacancies, you can also use this transfer and pay in cash.

On foot

Walking is the only way to get around Vila do Corvo itself.

The town is small and you can walk the whole thing in 30 minutes. If you go to Praia de Areia beach, you'll have an extra 20-40 minutes of walking.

Many tourists also walk to the Caldeirão Crater, but usually only if you are staying on the island for at least 1 night.

Tours from Flores are set up so that you probably wouldn't be able to climb the mountain on foot, as the stop at Corvo is usually between 4 and 5 hours.

Taxi

Regular taxis are not available on Corvo Island.

Nor are they worth the effort, as you can comfortably walk anywhere on Vila do Corvo in 5-10 minutes and get to the caldera with tourist transfers.

Car/motorbike rental

There are no car or motorbike rental companies operating on Corvo.

Car rental is also not possible through the accommodation, or rather none of the available accommodation currently offers this service.

Public transport

There are no regular buses or minibuses or any other form of public transport on the island.
