Nagoya - with its more than two million inhabitants, it is the fourth most populous city in Japan. Nagoya is the capital of Aichi Prefecture and a major industrial city. The city was founded in the Edo development period and boasts an interesting and rich history. Although most of the historical sites were destroyed during the Allied air raids, there is still a wealth of interesting places and events to be found here.
Nagoya Castle - despite its near total destruction, the castle has been largely reconstructed, although not entirely with period materials and techniques. There is a museum and a hall of impressive gilded paintings of the castle palace. Currently, the palace and castle are being reconstructed with period technology, which can be observed with your own eyes. A popular place to watch the sakura trees in bloom.
Railroad Museum - JR Central (Japan Railways) Train and Railway Museum. Japan boasts several "bests" in train travel. The museum has 39 train sets on display and many interesting exhibits. With the help of a simulator, you can experience how the fastest trains in the world are driven or what your duties as their operator are. The second floor is especially suitable for children.
Atsuta Shrine - one of the most important Shinto shrines in Japan, dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. The complex of beautiful buildings in a purely Japanese style is set in a beautiful forest park. The shrine houses one of the three imperial artifacts, the mythical sword Kusanagi. Unfortunately, it is not on display to the public. There is also a very nice cafe/restaurant with local specialties.
