Electricity and power sockets

Japan's power grid operates on a 100 volt, 50/60 Hz basis.

Sockets and plugs in Japan are mainly type A and, to a much lesser extent, type B.

Many universal travel adapters for outlets around the world are adapted to Type B outlets, but no longer Type A outlets.

Make sure your adapter supports "A" sockets before you travel. Even in hotels, Type B or other types of outlets are not common.

  • Sockets - A (significantly less so for type B)
  • Voltage - 100 V
  • Frequency - 50/60 Hz

Internet

Mobile data works without problems in all populated areas in Japan, and free wi-fi is standard in all hotels, as well as cafes and fast-food joints.

Free public wi-fi networks covering all outdoor areas of major cities are common.

All international airports have many kiosks of local mobile operators offering data and regular sim cards.

If you don't want to be delayed on arrival, get an Indonesian data e-sim in advance from airalo.com.
