Port Camollia is the northernmost of the great gates in the fortifications of the historic centre of Siena and also the busiest gate. It is the gate that will be your first contact with old Siena when you walk from the station, and it is through this gate that you will step back in time several centuries.
The original gate, built in the 13th century, was razed, along with part of the walls, in 1555 during the siege of Siena. Construction of a new one then began around the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries.
