Palazzo Reale

The Royal Palace, Palazzo Reale in Italian, is one of the central monuments of the historic centre and is located right on the Piazza del Duomo. It is the largest urban palace in Milan and has been one of the main seats of many Milanese governments across several centuries.
The palace covers an area of over 7,000square meters and currently hosts various exhibitions and cultural events.
Architecture and history
The facade of the palace is somewhat drowned in the niche of a small courtyard and thus does not look monumental at first glance. However, it is one of the most important buildings in Milan. The Royal Palace has ancient predecessors, but it was not built in its present form until the 16th century, after the fall of the Sforza family and the arrival of the French.
The palace acquired its present neoclassical appearance during the 18th century under Maria Theresa, when Milan was ruled by the Habsburgs.
Admission and exhibitions
The palace hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions throughout the year, ranging from classical to modern art. You can always find an up-to-date listing of these on the palace's official website.
The ticket price is fixed regardless of the specific exhibition: 14 eur for adults, 12 eur for students.
