Weather in Milan and best time to go

Milan

The weather in Milan is mild with the four seasons changing.

Winters are very wet and rainy, but frost and snow are not very common in Milan, despite its proximity to the Alps. Be sure to pack an umbrella and a scarf to protect you from the rain and biting cold.

From May to September, the city is at its warmest. Temperatures usually exceed 24°C and rainfall tapers off.

On the other hand, it's coldest from December to February, when temperatures hover somewhere between 5°C and 0°C. Precipitation is lowest during the winter months, but Milan does get snow now and then.

Milan during the year

This is how the weather in Milan looks at different times of the year.

Weather in spring

Springtime Milan enjoys pleasant weather that invites you to take walks and be outdoors. By mid-March, it's already pure spring weather, with pleasant temperatures of around 14°C, green trees and flowering plants.

During April it quickly warms up to 20 °C and May can often feel more like summer.

Sudden and unpredictable showers are to be expected in spring, and statistically spring is one of the very rainy seasons, but these are usually short showers.

Summer weather

Milan's summers are typically southern, but cooled by the proximity of the Alps. Temperatures during the summer holidays, however, routinely rise above 30 °C, and it feels considerably warmer on Milan's wide boulevards.

Rainfall is infrequent, with mostly sunny skies and showers occurring mainly in the evening during thunderstorms.

During July and August in particular, temperature extremes of over 33 °C are common, making city living very uncomfortable. During this period it is definitely a better option to travel to the nearby Lake Como region, for example.

Weather in autumn

The autumn months are marked by frequent rain showers, but they don't really affect purely urban tourism. You can always take shelter in one of the sights, shops or galleries. Typical autumn temperatures are higher than in the Czech Republic, hovering around 15-17°C.

Even with the warmer temperatures, the trees take much longer to put on their autumn colours than in the Czech Republic, and you can't take photos of the colourful parks until late November or early December.

Winter weather

Winters in Milan tend to be mild with temperatures between 5 and 8 °C, very wet with frequent showers, but it doesn't rain as much as in autumn.

Snow is relatively rare in the city itself, as are freezing temperatures, which occur at most a few days a year in the early morning hours.

When to go to Milan

The best time to visit Milan is definitely the spring months from March to early June, when temperatures are pleasant, between 15 and 25°C, there are plenty of sunny days and the rainfall is average.

There are also pleasant temperatures during September to November, but with more rainfall.

On the other hand, the least suitable period for urban tourism is the summer holidays, when the streets turn into a hotbed.
