Giardini Pubblici

After Parco Sempione, the second most popular city park is Giardini Pubblici, the public gardens on the northern edge of the centre. Founded in 1784, when Milan was ruled by the Habsburgs, the gardens were Milan's first park dedicated to collective entertainment.

Relaxation and culture
Giardini Pubblici is the perfect place to relax undisturbed while walking around the city. Unlike the more famous Parco Sempione, it is not as crowded, with more benches and pleasant corners.
Along the perimeter of the park you can visit several museums or galleries, which are among the most important in Milan:
- Milan Museum of Natural History - Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano
- Gallery of Modern Art - GAM - Galleria d'Arte Moderna
- Contemporary Art Centre - PAC - Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea
How to get to the gardens?
Giardini Pubblici is very accessible by metro, as there are three stations in close proximity - Porta Venezia, Palestro (red line M1) and Turati (yellow line M3).
Tram lines 1, 9 and 33 also run along the northern edge of the park.
