After Parco Sempione, the second most popular city park is Giardini Pubblici, the public gardens on the northern edge of the centre. Founded in 1784, when Milan was ruled by the Habsburgs, the gardens were Milan's first park dedicated to collective entertainment.

Giardini Pubblici is very accessible by metro, as there are three stations in close proximity - Porta Venezia, Palestro (red line M1) and Turati (yellow line M3).

Tram lines 1, 9 and 33 also run along the northern edge of the park.
