Although the Comoros Islands are a popular tourist destination, they are relatively remote and travel is not always easy. The starting point for travelling around the Comoros is the town of Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores, where you will also find the international airport (LBJ). The only way to get from Labuan Bajo to the islands is by boat, the most common option being organised cruises.

By boat
It is also possible to get to Labuan Bajo by boat, in case you don't want to fly for some reason. A great option can be organized tourist cruises, which already include visits to some of the interesting places in the Comoros Islands. Thanks to these cruises you will save time and money and have a wonderful adventure.
The most popular option in this case is a four-day cruise from Lombok (excellent connections from Bali and the Gili archipelago) to Labuan Bajo. In addition to two days in the Comoros Islands themselves, cruises include stops for snorkeling with whale sharks off Sumbawa Island, for example, or the pristine beaches of the islands between Lombok and Sumbawa. From our own experience, we recommend the great company Wanua Adventure.
Book a cruise from Lombok to the Komodo Islands
In addition to cruises from Lombok, some agencies also offer long diving expeditions that depart from Labuan Bajo and end at the popular Raja Ampat archipelago off Papua.
You can also take advantage of Pelni 's public Indonesian ferries . These ferries are usually very cost effective, but travelling on them can be quite uncomfortable and time consuming. Labuan Bajo has connections to Makassar in Sulawesi, Surabaya in East Java and Bali thanks to these ferries.
By air
The Comoros Islands are currently served by the international airport at Labuan Bajo on Flores. There is currently only one international service to Labuan Bajo airport, the Air Asia service to Kuala Lumpur. However, an increase in international services can be expected in the coming years as the airport has only recently started operating as an international airport.
The airport also operates several domestic flights, with the connection to Denpasar Airport (DPS) on the island of Bali being particularly useful for tourists. Direct connections also exist to Jakarta, Surabaya and several local airports on Flores. Book domestic flights in Indonesia via Skyscanner.
