The Komodo Islands share two climatic seasons with other islands in the Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara. Due to its location near the equator, you can enjoy a tropical climate all year round. During the year, temperatures range between 27 and 30 °C.

For travellers, the best time to visit is the dry season (April - October) with the peak tourist rush during Bali's peak season (July - August). This period also sees the best underwater visibility, making it an exceptionally good time to explore the underwater world.
The rainy season (December - March) isn't a bad choice either, but be prepared for higher temperatures, higher humidity and the occasional torrential downpour; on the other hand, the Comoros Islands will reward you with their distinctive green colour and minimal tourists.
Weather and temperatures throughout the year
Below we present the weather in the Comoros Islands during the different months.
Weather in January
January is the wettest month of the year in the Comoros. No wonder, after all, it is right in the middle of the rainy season. On average, 210 mm of rain falls in January, but heavy downpours are usually limited to just 1-2 hours a day, and you can enjoy pleasant weather for the rest of your stay. However, higher air temperatures and humidity are to be expected.
Weather in February
February is also one of the rainiest months on the islands, but the torrential rains are slowly diminishing and the air is also cooling down. The average air temperature is 28°C, expect an average monthly rainfall of 170 mm.
Weather in March
Along with March, the end of the rainy season in the Comoros is approaching. In Labuan Bajo, the average monthly rainfall is 120 mm, temperatures are tropical and you can expect high humidity.
Weather in April
April is the border month between the rainy and dry seasons, so some years can see fairly heavy rainfall, while other years are completely dry. However, on average you can expect 100 mm of rain per month and pleasant temperatures.
Weather in May
The dry season is in full swing and the Bali tourist crowds have not yet arrived. It's raining considerably less than in previous months (average rainfall for the month is 43 mm) and the humidity is decreasing, so feel-good temperatures are definitely more comfortable.
Weather in June
Blue and clear skies, great visibility underwater, minimal rainfall and drier air. This is how we can describe June, the first month of the official tourist season. The average air temperature is 27 °C.
Weather in July
No one can complain about the weather in July, with pleasant tropical temperatures and virtually zero rainfall. A minor drawback may be the increased number of tourists who come here on holiday from Bali, but also take advantage of the European summer holidays.
Weather in August
Also in August you can enjoy premium weather and ideal conditions for sailing, diving and snorkelling. However, be aware that due to the number of tourists, you need to book activities and accommodation well in advance.
Weather in September
With an average rainfall of 10 mm per month and pleasant temperatures, September is one of the most pleasant months for travel in the Comoros Islands. Tourists are dwindling, prices are dropping, but the weather remains as fabulous as in the summer months.
Weather in October
October is the last month of the dry season, the rainfall is slightly increasing (37 mm per month) but it is still very pleasant. After the rains, the sea can be wilder and visibility underwater may not be so great.
Weather in November
November brings higher rainfall totals and also much higher humidity. Even so, rainfall is limited to only a few hours a day, so November is a good month for sightseeing holidays, but cannot be recommended for divers.
Weather in December
Humid and hot... that's December in Labuan Bajo. It doesn't rain for days, but you can look forward to at least one fair downpour every day. Even hikes and excursions are more challenging than usual in the hot weather, with many hotels closed and some local tour operators discontinuing cruises around the islands.
Sea temperature in the Comoros Islands
The sea temperature in the northern part of the Comoros Islands, where the most popular tourist destinations are, is consistently between 27 and 28 °C throughout the year. The water is slightly warmer in the rainy season (November to March), but you can also enjoy pleasant temperatures in the dry season (April to October).
If you head to the more southerly areas of the Comoros Islands (especially for diving), expect cooler water temperatures, usually averaging around 21°C.
When to go to Komodo Islands
The Comodian Islands are a popular destination for travellers throughout the year. If you're looking for good underwater visibility and minimal rainfall, opt for April to October. July and August bring with them the best weather of the year, but also influxes of tourists and higher prices. Some services may even be booked out for longer in advance.
May, June and September in particular can be ideal months for a trip to the Comoros, when the islands still have excellent weather but the number of tourists is at a minimum.
The best accommodation in Labuan Bajo
In case you come to the islands between November and March, you will definitely not be disappointed. Although the rainfall is quite high, it usually rains heavily but for a relatively short period of time. Then you can easily stay dry for the rest of the day. However, this period is not a good time for underwater enthusiasts and divers due to the poor visibility.
