The town of Nea Potidea is unique in its location, which is evident at first glance when you look at the map. It lies in the narrowest neck connecting the main peninsula of Chalkidiki with the popular beach area of the Kassandra peninsula.
Nea Potidea thus has two coastlines, one to the east and one to the west, and is even bordered by water to the north, where an artificial channel for smaller boats has been built, effectively separating Kassandra from the mainland.
Show top 10 hotels in Halkidiki
Nea Potidea is one of the medium-sized and relatively quiet resorts. While you'll find a few bars and clubs, it's not nearly as noisy as, say, Kallithea. There are many tavernas along the coast and in the centre, as well as a few souvenir and beach equipment shops.
The town has the disadvantage of having the only road to the Kassandra peninsula running through it and therefore more car traffic.
Beaches and swimming
For swimming, however, Nea Potidea is among the top of the resorts in Halkidiki. Beautiful beaches can be found mainly on the east coast of the town.
Right in the centre is a wide and spacious beach by local standards, with fine white sand and full facilities in the form of sunbeds, bars and tavernas.
This beach is up to 90 metres wide in places, making it one of the widest in the whole of Halkidiki. The entrance to the sea here is unusually rather steep, but the first few metres are fine even for small children.
Lovers of really long, uncrowded beaches, but full of water sports, kitesurfing and smaller beachside bistros will head across the channel to the north-east of Nea Potidea.
Here you'll come across Agios Mamas, a 4km long beach that invites swimming, sports and long walks. The entrance to the sea here is gradual and safe.
Accommodation Nea Potidea
Nea Potidea is not one of the cheapest resorts even for individual travellers. The normal price in a 2-bed room for 1 night here in high season starts at 88 eur, in June or September around 73 eur.
For specific accommodation we would recommend the apartments Canal Luxury Apartments in the town centre or the Seaview Aparthotel in a quiet garden location only about 50 metres from the sea.
