The iconic white mosque with its distinctive golden dome is one of the main symbols of the Sultanate of Brunei.

The mosque is named in honour of the 28th Sultan of Brunei, Omar Ali Saifuddien, who ruled from 1914 to 1967.

This mosque is the main Muslim shrine in Brunei and serves as a symbol of the Islamic faith of Bruneians. Along with the Jame Asr' Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, it is one of the two national mosques.

You can also tell that it is one of the main landmarks by the"Frame" tourist attraction about 200 metres from the mosque.

The shining pearl of Brunei

The mosque was designed by Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien and built partly in the style of the buildings of the Indian Mughal Empire and partly in the style of the Italian Renaissance.

The building is constructed of white marble, concrete and the domes are golden. The minaret reaches a height of 52 metres.

The building was completed in 1958 and can accommodate 3,000 people.

In the artificial lagoon built around the mosque, you can admire a replica of the Sultan's ship.

Entrance fees and opening hours

The mosque is open to the general public, including non-Muslims and tourists. You have to take your clothes off before entering and long trousers and draped shoulders are a requirement for visiting.
