Mount Ainslie

Mount Ainslie

For the best views of Canberra, you can't miss the lookout on 846-metre Mount Ainslie.

From the top, you'll get the best views of the whole city, especially the iconic Anzac Parade and the New Parliament House. Canberra's prime location in the hilly lakeside landscape stands out when viewed from the top.

Mount Ainslie is especially popular in the early evening, when you can watch spectacular sunsets from here, set against the backdrop of another popular viewpoint - Black Mountain.

A public road leads to the top of Mount Ainslie and there is free parking.

If you don't have a car, you can hike up the mountain on a marked hiking trail that starts at the Australian War Memorial.

The distance is 2 km one way and the elevation gain is over 235 metres, see route map.

There is no public transport to Mount Ainslie.
