The small domestic airport of Sandakan is located 6 km from the city centre and only 15 km from the famous orangutan rescue station Sepilok.
The airport is also a good base for exploring the Kinabatangan River area or the popular Turtle Island.
Passengers will benefit from one small but modern, spacious and very well laid out terminal that meets current international standards.
The busiest connection (several flights a day) is to Kuala Lumpur, served by three airlines - AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air. The second most frequent destination is Kota Kinabalu, Sabah's largest city.
There are no direct international flights to Sandakan.
