Most tourists use the Grab mobile app or taxi app to get from the airport. It takes about 20 minutes to get to downtown Sandakan and from 18 myr.
Taxi / Grab
There are always plenty of official white taxis waiting outside the terminal at all hours of the day and night. At the kiosk in the arrivals hall, pay a voucher to go to the taxi driver.
In the area around Sandakan, the mobile app Grab also presents a very well working option, which is usually cheaper than regular taxis.

Car rental
There are several car rental companies operating at Sandakan Airport, including well-known brands such as Hertz and Avis.
Rent a car if you want to travel around the entire state of Sabah. The main roads are in very good condition and Sandakan Airport is ideally located in the middle of Sabah.
Rental prices are quite high due to little competition and start at 280 usd.
Public transport - bus
There are no public transport buses running directly to the terminal, however, the number 7 line runs along the main road only about 400 metres from the airport.
The stop is at the roundabout.
Public transport in Sandakan is only catered for by minivans, so it is not suitable if you are travelling with large luggage.
Buses do not have a regular schedule, however they run about once every 20 to 30 minutes from about 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
The ticket price is 3 myr and is payable in cash only to the driver.
