Essendon Fields Airport in a nutshell

Essendon Fields Airport became the first international airport for Melbourne in 1950, but in 1970 all traffic was moved to the newly built and still serving Melbourne-Tullamarine MEL.
Today Essendon Airport serves mainly general aviation, sport and training flights and is located 11 km north of the city centre.
Essendon currently has two scheduled services, operated several times a day by Sharp Airlines with small aircraft for 19 people.
Sharp Airlines flies to King Island and Flinders Island.
There are a large number of hangars and buildings of various airline operators around the Essendon airport area. All scheduled flights are from the main terminal (see map).
Other services to King Island are operated by Rex Airlines from the main Melbourne-Tullamarine airport and King Island Airlines from another small airport , Melbourne-Moorabbin.
