Qantas allows the carriage of at least 1 piece of checked baggage up to 23kg (or more for some destinations) and a standard carry-on 56x36x23cm + personal item free of charge on all international fares.

Hand luggage

Passengers in all classes have free cabin baggage 56 x 36 x 23 cm up to 7 kg, or up to 10 kg in business and first class.

You can also take 1 of the following personal items with this baggage at no extra charge:

  • Laptop bag
  • Women's handbag
  • Coat, blanket
  • Camera
  • Bag from the store duty free
  • Bag with baby food and drink for the flight
  • Foldable Stroller
  • Folding wheelchair
  • Crutches

Personal item dimensions are not specified, but must fit under the seat in front of you.

Checked baggage

The number and weight of free checked baggage depends on the fare class purchased and the specific route.

International routes

On all international routes, you always get at least 1 piece of free baggage.

  • Flights to Oceania, Asia, Europe and Africa - any number of bags, the total weight of which must not exceed the following values
    • Economy Class - 30 kg
    • Premium Economy - 40 kg
    • Business - 40 kg
    • First - 50 kg
  • flights to North and South America - specific maximum baggage allowance
    • Economy Class - 1 piece up to 32 kg
    • Premium Economy - 2 pieces of 32 kg each
    • Business - 2 pieces of 32 kg each
    • First - 3 pieces of 32 kg each

The total sum of dimensions must not exceed 158 cm.

Domestic routes

Also on flights within Australia, checked baggage is always included in the ticket price.

  • Economy Class - 1 piece up to 23 kg
  • Premium Economy - 2 pieces of 23 kg each
  • Business - 2 pieces of 32 kg each

Overweight and extra baggage fees

If you arrive at the airport with baggage that exceeds the specified limits, you will never avoid the added fee for excess baggage or extra baggage.

If you buy extra baggage online when you buy your ticket, you save 50% of the price.

The fee for a whole extra bag ranges from 50 aud to 300 aud depending on the specific route.

Baggage for children

Infants up to 2 years old are allowed 1 piece of checked baggage up to 10kg + 3 personal items per flight on Qantas international flights, all of which together fit under the seat in front of you.

No free checked baggage is allowed on domestic routes.

In addition, a stroller is carried free of charge.
