Muong Hoa Valley

Muong Hoa Valley, Muong Hoa Valley

The beautiful Muong Hoa valley starts just outside Sapa and stretches for about 15 kilometres between the mountains. It is the most popular place in the Sapa area to visit for beautiful scenery and traditional villages of the local tribes. You can enjoy photogenic rice fields, water buffaloes and authentic views of the Vietnamese countryside.

The best way to explore the valley is on your own, as you'll be able to use the various local trails among the rice fields to really soak up the local atmosphere. It's also very popular to stay overnight in the valley and stay with locals in a homestay.

Trekking through the Muong Hoa Valley

The Muong Hoa Valley is probably the most popular place in Sapa to go trekking amongst the rice paddies and local villages. A day hike to Ta Van village is the most common, but of course you can also visit other villages in the area. Some guides also offer two-day overnight trips through the valley.

You can also go on a day trip on your own, officially you pay 45 000 vnd for entry, but it depends if you pass a checkpoint on the way. You can either follow the main road or descend into the valley just a few dozen metres after leaving Sapa on a local trail.

You can also reach the valley by taking the path around Ham Rong Mountain. All trails are marked on the map in the Activities section.

If you'd rather go with a local guide, you can easily find one on the street anywhere in Sapa, and you can also book a hike online.
