A visit to this unique temple with a spectacular view of Krabi's hilly landscape should definitely not be missing from your itinerary. The temple includes a cave with tiger footprints and a striking peak that houses a golden Buddha statue.

The temple is also known as Wat Tham Suea. A visit to the temple and the journey is an ideal half-day trip from Krabi or Ao Nang.

1260 steps to the top

If you decide to climb up to the Buddha statue and the viewpoint, you'll have a challenging 1260 steps. Walking up them is definitely not easy, the staircase is very steep and some steps are up to 30 centimetres high. Along the way, you will be kept company by macaques who love to hang out on the steps and railings. From the top, you will then have an amazing view of the local limestone mountains and green jungle.

Down below the cliff you will find a very important cave for the faithful, where you can see tiger paw prints. These are said to have been created here in the 20th century when a monk was meditating in the cave and saw tigers roaming around.

Entrance fees and opening hours

Entrance to the temple is free, you can make a voluntary donation at the site.

The temple is officially open from sunrise to sunset. If you stay a little longer, no one is likely to chase you out.

The easiest way to get to Tiger Cave Temple is by rental car or scooter. However, local public transport also runs here:

  • Songthaew - shared vans can get you to the temple from Krabi town about once every 30 minutes for 50 thb
  • Grab - a popular option is also a taxi via the Grab mobile app, which leaves from Krabi at roughly 200 thb and from Ao Nang at 390 thb
