Where to stay in Krabi

Krabi Province, Thailand

Krabi province is really big and you can find a variety of accommodation from the cheapest backpacker hostels to world-class luxury resorts. It's up to you which type of accommodation you choose.

Where to stay in Krabi?

Krabi is really big and you might be wondering where to stay. Of course, you can rotate between several different places when travelling around Krabi as the location is quite large. A good base for day trips to the most beautiful islands and beaches can be Krabi Town or the resort of Ao Nang.

If you don't like too much hustle and bustle, you can choose one of the more secluded beaches on the mainland. Also consider accommodation right on the islands, the wild and extremely beautiful Koh Phi Phi archipelago and the peaceful Koh Lanta with its pleasant atmosphere are the most suitable.

Accommodation in Krabi can be booked through Booking.com, in some cases accommodation can also be cheaper through Agoda.com.

Best areas in Krabi and accommodation tips

Below we present you the main areas of Krabi to stay and tips on the best accommodation of different price ranges in those locations.

Krabi Town

Although the capital of the entire province is not on any of the beaches, but in a small bay covered with mangrove forests, it is an ideal base for exploring the area.

Stay here especially if you plan to rent a scooter or car and go on land excursions. In town, you can also enjoy night markets, plenty of restaurants and plenty of shops. Krabi Town is a transport hub, with the local airport nearby and the main bus terminal.

Krabi Town is also a backpackers' and low-cost travellers' paradise. While a truly luxurious hotel is hard to find here, there are hundreds of simple hostels and budget guesthouses. But there's something for everyone:

Ao Nang

Ao Nang is probably the most popular resort in all of Krabi. It has its advantages and disadvantages. It is particularly well suited as a base for boat trips to the surrounding islands and islets. The beach here isn't particularly spectacular, but you can take a dip and enjoy a nice refreshing dip. Ao Nang is a hub for local tour operators, so there are hundreds of excursions available, cheap restaurants and pad thai stalls on every corner, and you'll enjoy the nightlife.

Search for accommodation in Ao Nang

Ao Nang is full of hotels, hostels and resorts. So you can choose from the cheapest accommodation to luxury hotels with swimming pools and beautiful bungalows in tropical gardens.

Hat Noppaarat Thara

West of the resort of Ao Nang lies the long beach of Hat Noppharat Thara, from which large boats leave for Phuket and the islands of Krabi province. This resort is a little quieter than neighbouring Ao Nang, the beach is sandy and wide with a gradual entry into the water, so even children and the elderly can enjoy swimming there.

Search for accommodation in Hat Nopparat Thara

Accommodation at Hat Nopparat Thara beach is slightly more expensive compared to Krabi Town or Ao Nang, but still affordable. You won't find the cheapest hostels here, but otherwise there is a wide range of accommodation.

West Coast (Tub Kaek and other beaches)

The west coast of Krabi is somewhat neglected by tourists, which is a shame. It is here that the most beautiful beaches of mainland Krabi are found, with clear water and a pleasant tranquility compared to other locations. The west coast includes the beaches of Tub Kaek, Koh Kwang and Klong Muang.

The west coast of Krabi doesn't have as many accommodation options as the more touristy parts of the province. Because of this, accommodation here is also slightly more expensive and you're more likely to find beautiful beach resorts than cheap hostels.

Railay

Although the Railay Peninsula is mainly visited for day trips, it has a great charm to stay overnight. This is because once the day visitors leave in droves, you can enjoy the sunsets on the beautiful beaches almost on your own.

In addition, Railay also allows for a great variety of interesting activities; you can climb one of the spectacular local viewpoints or take a rock climbing course on the local limestone cliffs.

As Railay is only accessible by boat, expect slightly higher prices for accommodation and meals. However, you can find affordable hotels and resorts on Railay too.

Koh Phi Phi

The wildly beautiful Koh Phi Phi archipelago is bursting at the seams during the day. After all, there are some of the best diving and snorkelling spots in Thailand and the beautiful Maya Bay beach from the Leonardo DiCaprio movie.

Phi Phi Don is famous as a popular place for wild parties where the alcohol flows, but there are also much quieter spots on the island. For more information on accommodation on Phi Phi Don, see the separate guide.

Search for accommodation on Koh Phi Phi

The island of Phi Phi Don tends to be one of the more expensive ones within Thailand, but accommodation in the tourist areas doesn't have to be prohibitive and even backpackers can choose. On other beaches lie rather more luxurious resorts.

Koh Lanta

The tranquil island of Koh Lanta is the opposite of wild Phi Phi. Here you'll find long, golden beaches with fine sand, but you have to take into account that the water is not as clear and clean as on the surrounding islands. On the other hand, you'll find tranquillity, Thai comfort, delicious food and plenty of things to explore.

Search for accommodation on Koh Lanta

Accommodation on Koh Lanta is concentrated along the beaches of the west coast and offers something for everyone. The resorts are usually further apart, then you can enjoy nice restaurants and beach bars with delicious cocktails on the beach.
