Plaza de Toros

Arena La Malagueta

Every Spanish city must have a bullfighting arena and Málaga is of course no exception. The local Plaza de Toros is located in the La Malagueta district near the beach of the same name and has served its purpose ever since it was built in 1876.

The arena impresses by its architectural appearance alone. It is built in a beautiful and typically Spanish Neo-Mudéjar style on a 16-square plan. With a diameter of 52 metres, it is one of the medium-sized arenas, as well as having a seating capacity of around 9,000 spectators.

Bullfighting

Bullfighting takes place on a regular basis in the Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta arena, as it does everywhere else in Spain. The main events of the year take place here in August during the so-called Feria Taurina, and the Corrida Picassiana at Easter is also a major event.

During this event, the bullfighters are dressed in costumes inspired by the art of the famous painter Pablo Picasso, who was born in Málaga.

Tickets for the bullfight can be purchased in amounts ranging from 15 eur to 100 eur depending on the location. Tickets are always sold by many agencies, among the biggest are taquillaofficial.es or entradastorosmalaga.com.

Entrance and tour

Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to visit the interior of the arena outside the bullfights, but you can admire its beautiful façade at least from the outside.

The best views from the top, when the size of the arena stands out, are from the Mirador de Gibralfaro lookout near the castle of the same name.
