The statue of the golden fish (Peix Daurat in Catalan, Pez Dorado in Spanish) quickly became one of the symbols of Barcelona after its unveiling.
Like many other buildings and landmarks in Barcelona, the goldfish sculpture, by the hand of Canadian architect Frank Gehry, was created for the 1992 Summer Olympics.

The Golden Fish is 56 metres long and 35 metres high. The building material is bronze-coloured steel, creating an intricate lattice and making great use of the sun's reflections. When viewed from below against the blue sky, the sculpture really gives the impression of a goldfish floating on the surface of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Peix Durat is located under the Mapfre Tower skyscraper near Barceloneta Beach and Ciutadella Park.
At night, the statue is not illuminated in any way.
