The island of Pico is mainly connected to the outside world by air. Regular passenger ferries often only go to the neighbouring islands of Faial and São Jorge
By air
The only airport Pico PIX is located on the north coast 10 km from the largest town, Madalena.
Pico has direct connections to several Azores islands and a direct flight also flies to Libsaon. All scheduled flights here are operated by a local airline SATA Air Acores.
The airport has facilities for aircraft up to the size of an Airbus A320 or Boeing 737.
The following airports are served by flights from Pico:
- Ponta Delgada PDL - 2-5 times a day
- Terceira TER - 1-2x daily
- Lisabon LIS - 5-6 times a week
A return ticket from Ponta Delgada or Terceira costs on average 80 eur to 100 eur.
You will always fly to Europe or America via Lisbon, Ponta Delgada or Terceira airports. In the direction of Europe, it is usually worth buying tickets on sale to Ponta Delgada or Terceira, where you will often find fares around 250 eur on these airlines:
And from mainland Portugal also via Ryanair.
Then buy a separate ticket with SATA Air Acores to the island of Pico. Flights from Europe to Pico bought as one booking tend to be more expensive.
By ferry
The island of Pico is connected by regular boat lines for passengers and cars to four Azores islands. All services are operated by Atlânticoline. Timetables and online ticket booking can be found on the website: atlanticoline.pt.
There are no passenger boats to the mainland from Pico.
There are two marinas on the island. A larger one in Madalena and a much smaller one in São Roque do Pico.
