For one of the most beautiful sights on Flores, you have to drive inland to the side road connecting the town of Lajes with the centre of the island.

At the side of the road you'll find a small wooden platform with railings, but even better views are a little higher up along the entire roadside. Traffic is very light here, so you don't have to worry about just stopping anywhere on the flat so that a car can eventually pass you safely.

From this vantage point, you get a breathtaking view of not only the lakes in the Funda and Rasa calderas, but also the scenic massif of grassland above the village of Lajes and, thanks to the high altitude, the Atlantic Ocean.

Miradouro Lagoas

This is also one of the most magical places to watch sunsets.

How to get there

Miradouro Lagoas Funda and Rasa is not marked on some maps at all, partly because the viewpoint is actually more than a 300-meter stretch of the entire road.

The viewpoint can only be conveniently reached by car, as there is no marked walking route nearby.

As suggested above, park your car anywhere along the stiles, ideally not in front of or behind the curve, so that other drivers have plenty of visibility as they go around.
