Miyajima is a relatively small island and largely uninhabited and inaccessible.
That is why the main way of moving around the island is walking.
On foot
The single town of Miyajimacho is very small and can be walked through in 15 minutes.
Marked hiking trails lead up Mount Misen and along the coast, and hiking is incidentally one of the main activities that tourists head to Miyajima for.

Cable car
You can significantly shorten your journey to the island's highest point, Mount Misen, with a set of two suspended cable cars.
The cable car runs year-round from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm every day, with the last ride up at 4:00 pm.
Tickets cannot be booked online. They can be purchased on site with card or cash.

Holders of the Visit Hiroshima Tourist Pass day pass and multi-day passes enjoy a discount on the return ticket of 200 jpy.

Bus
There are two bus lines operating in Miyajima.
There are two buses to the lower cable car station
The bus only runs on a very short route with a stop near Itsukushima Shrine.

Aquarium - Harbour - East Coast
Minibuses run from the aquarium across the harbour to Suginoura Bay, where the Miyajima Seaside Hotel *** is located, and some services continue on to Tsutsumigaura Beach
- They run from about 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
