Lucca is located in the Mediterranean humid subtropical zone, but due to the proximity of high mountains, it can have characteristics of a temperate zone. The differences between summer and winter here are not as great as further north in Europe, but certainly greater than further south in Italy.
You can look forward to warm , dry summers with temperatures of around 29°C and cooler, wet winters with temperatures between 7 and 12°C, but it rarely snows in Lucca itself.
The weather in Lucca is very similar to neighbouring Pisa, where we break down the weather by month.

When to go to Lucca
If you're just after sightseeing and urban wandering, Lucca is a year-round destination.
Even on steamy summer days, Lucca's narrow stone streets are pleasantly shady and cool, while on rainy winter days you have the chance to duck into a restaurant or typical Italian café on every corner.
Rains lasting several hours are rare here, so while you're enjoying a pizza or espresso in a downpour, the weather outside will have calmed down by then and you'll be ready to continue exploring the medieval centre.
