The Basilica is located in the Piazza Santa Croce of the same name. In its bowels, it houses the remains of many of Florence's great citizens, such as Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei and Gioacchino Rossini.

The Basilica of Santa Croce is the largest church in the world belonging to the Franciscan Order and dates back to 1222.

Admission and opening hours

The Basilica is open to the public from Monday to Saturday from 9:30-17:30. On Sundays it is open from 12:30-17:45.

Ticket prices are as follows:

  • Adult - 8 eur
  • Children 11-17 years and students with ISIC card: 6 eur
