Where to stay in Cinque Terre

Manarola by day

Are you going on holiday to the Cinque Terre? Find out which locations and towns are the best, cheapest and most practical for accommodation on the coast.

Where to stay in Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre is a popular destination for day trips, but it's also a place to stay for a quiet week-long holiday. Where is the cheapest place to stay in Cinque Terre and the surrounding area?

Day trips

If Cinque Terre is going to be the destination of a day trip without accommodation, you'll probably start from Pisa, which serves as the best starting point for the entire region of Tuscany and Southern Liguria.

Moreover, hotel prices in Pisa are lower than in the heart of the Cinque Terre region, while the downside is the distance of an hour and three-quarters by train, but the connections are very frequent.

La Spezia and Levanto

If you want to head to the Cinque Terre from the nearest major cities, then choose La Spezia in the east or Levanto in the west. These towns provide complete facilities in the form of large supermarkets, a plethora of restaurants and shops, as well as good and direct train links to Pisa or Milan.

Moreover, accommodation in these towns will almost always be cheaper than in the main Cinque Terre villages. Private apartments are available in high season from 59 eur, classic hotels from 81 eur.

Cinque Terre

Want to enjoy the Cinque Terre to the full? Then stay directly in the 5 main villages on the coast, or in the "sixth" village of Portovenere, which is also unofficially part of the Cinque Terre.

The popularity of the coast is reflected in the higher prices, with private guesthouses from 92 eur upwards, and classic hotels, which you won't find much of in the villages, from 128 eur upwards. Be aware that the villages in the Cinque Terre are a little less accessible to services, but there are plenty of restaurants, cafes and wine bars everywhere, as well as smaller local shops selling food and tourist equipment.

For tips on specific apartments, hotels or guesthouses with great reviews, check out the mini-guides to each place in the What to See section of the Cinque Terre.

In general, the cheapest accommodation tends to be in the town of Vernazza, which is the most visited but also the most competitive among apartments. You can also stay cheaply compared to the others in Corniglia, the least visited village in the Cinque Terre.

The most expensive accommodation between 110 eur and 147 eur can then be found in the other villages, but even here there may be exceptions with prices below 92 eur, see the listing of all accommodation in the villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Monterosso al Mare and Portovenere.

Cinque Terre accommodation prices

The average price per night in a 2-bed room in the high summer season is between 92 eur and 147 eur and if you are going in summer, we recommend booking at least 4-5 months in advance. August is the most expensive month of the year, when most of Italy is on holiday and the real tourist crowds flood in.

On the other hand, in the low season from October to March, accommodation prices are about half the price and it's no problem to stay from 55 eur per night.
