Ammouliani

Ammouliani

The small island of Ammouliani with an area of 4.5 square kilometres is located in the bay between the second and third "finger" of Chalkidiki, i.e. between the peninsulas of Sitohia and Athos, with Athos being much closer.

Ammouliani is a popular destination for its beautiful small beaches, crystal clear sea and also for its tranquillity. The island still lies out of the main tourist streams and although you certainly won't be alone on the local beaches in summer, there are incomparably fewer visitors compared to the mainland.

Beaches and swimming

There are several beaches on the island, all with the common denominator of fine white sand and crystal clear waters.

Alikes - the largest beach is located at the narrowest point of the island, about 2 km from the port and the centre of Ammouliani. It measures 350 metres wide and is also wide enough and enjoys quite rich facilities in the form of sunbed rentals, bars and tavernas. The calm, wide bay with very shallow water and a gradual entrance is also ideal for snorkelling thanks to its rocky edges.

Agios Georgios, Megali Ammos - Two very similar 300 metre long beaches can be found on the south-eastern tip of the island about 4.5 km from the harbour. Due to the greater distance, they are orphaned most of the time, but in high season you can find improvised bars and refreshments on both beaches.

Tsaska - one of the most remote beaches in the north of the island welcomes visitors with beautiful natural surroundings with green trees and completely away from civilization. However, basic amenities such as sunbed rental and a small bar can also be found here.

Karagatsi - a secluded beach in the southwest of Ammouliani is 3.5 km away from the harbour and offers beautiful hilly surroundings, great conditions for snorkelling and a sunbed rental with a small snack bar.

Ammouliani town and facilities

The largest village has the same name as the island and consists mostly of beautiful historic stone houses and streets with big cat heads. You won't find any other town on the island, just haphazardly built houses, apartments and hotels.

In Ammoulinai, as well as at the main beaches, you can take advantage of several tavernas and restaurants. You can shop in several small shops and one traditional supermarket. There is also an ATM, post office and pharmacy.

Accommodation at Ammouliani

On the island you will find a wide range of accommodation from apartments to hotels. Prices are slightly higher than on the mainland due to the remoteness. In low season you can get a double room per night from 59 eur, in the holidays from 92 eur.

On Ammouliani we would choose these accommodations:

  • Demi Studios - a perfect and well rated aparthotel with decent prices and a good location 50 meters from Alikes beach (1 km to the port)
  • Pension Limani - modern clean guesthouse with fully equipped rooms right by the marina
  • Hotel Sarandos - the small 5-room hotel offers consistently the lowest prices on the island and is located right in the centre of Ammouliani
  • Ammou Area - luxury holiday homes for those who seek absolute peace and quiet. They are located in the remote northwestern part of the island and with prices around 99 eur per room per night, they are among the best value for money accommodations on the island

How to get around the island

From Ammouliani port, minibuses run on three routes, but only on Saturdays and Sundays. The ticket price is always the same, paid in cash to the driver and costs 2,50 eur. The minibuses run:
