Sveta Nedelya

Cathedral of St. Nedelya

Sveta Nedelya Cathedral is the main church of the Eastern Orthodox Church and one of Bulgaria's leading monuments.

The much larger and better known Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is the main sanctuary of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

The Temple of Sveta Nedelya lies right in the centre of the city in the Serdika area.

Architecture and history

Although the temple is large, at first glance it is not one of the landmarks as it is hidden in the middle of a small park. The back eastern part of the temple is particularly visible.

Although the original temple was built in the 10th century, it has been rebuilt and modified many times over the centuries, so that its current appearance dates back to the mid-20th century.

We definitely recommend a visit to the beautifully decorated interior of the cathedral, where the monumental dome stands out.

Admission and opening hours

The cathedral can be visited every day from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Admission is free.

However, there is a photography fee of 5 bgn, which can only be paid in cash.
