What activities and entertainment to do in Nessebar?

The small town can be walked around in an hour, but as the historic centre is complemented by a new part on the mainland with beaches, Nessebar can serve as an ideal place to stay for those who want to alternate a beach holiday with sightseeing.

Discover ancient Nessebar

The entire part of the town located on a peninsula is one of Bulgaria's most valuable and most visited historical gems.

Settlements have been here since antiquity for easy defence against attacks from the sea and from the mainland.

In Nessebar you will discover especially sacral monuments - there is the largest concentration of churches of all Bulgarian towns.

Today, most of the churches have been converted into museums, but the architecture has been preserved and you can admire buildings from the 6th to the 14th century.

Apart from the churches, important monuments include the ancient theatre.

Walk through the narrow streets

Old Nessebar is not just about ancient monuments, but also about the calming atmosphere of narrow streets, houses with stone ground floors and wooden floors (usually from the 19th and 20th century) and many nooks and crannies with flowers.

Although the main streets have a very touristy feel and are lined with souvenir shops, you'll come across plenty of small streets where you'll be all alone except for the local cats.

Beaches and swimming

Nessebar is one of the most popular beach resorts.

Firstly, because it is one of the few Bulgarian resorts that also has a nice historical centre, ideal for strolling around after a dip in the sea, and secondly because it simply has nice beaches.

The nicest and most spacious beaches are on the mainland in Novi Nessebar. Both are roughly the same length and measure around 1.5 km.

The local beaches are covered with fine sand and are characterised by a very gradual entry into the water.

Take a boat ride

Experience Nessebar from a different perspective and take one of the regular ferries to the surrounding resorts.

You'll enjoy a slow cruise at relatively low prices, plus you can use local boats instead of crowded buses to get from A to B.
