Public transport

Public transport in Burgas is provided by buses and trolleybuses. In fact, however, even the trolleybus lines are operated by regular buses.

The transport is operated by Burgas Bus, on whose website you can find useful information:

Useful lines and timetables

Buses in Burgas run from approximately 5:00 am to 11:00 pm. At night, only the "N" line operates with a frequency of 60 minutes.

Individual lines usually run at intervals of 15-30 minutes, but there are usually more lines running together in long stretches, which shortens the resulting interval.

For example, the following routes are useful for tourists:

  • 15: Bus and Train Station South - Demokratsia Street - Burgas Airport BOJ
  • 12: runs just along the whole of the Sea Garden Park to the South Bus and Train Station and then continues to the north of Burgas
  • 11: runs from the northern part of the Sea Garden Park to the South Bus and Train Station and continues north to Burgas
  • 11 + 12: connects the South and West bus stations

Tickets and prices

When visiting Burgas, you will probably take public transport only a little (1-2 times a day). Therefore, as a tourist, you will probably only use single tickets.

Single tickets

You have to pay for one ride 1,50 bgn. You always buy your ticket inside the bus from the conductor. You can only pay with cash.

After boarding the bus, take your seat and wait for the conductor to find you.

All of these tickets are for 1 ride only, so if you are transferring to another bus, you must buy another ticket.

Electronic cards

If you want to travel around Burgas more often, buy a transport card, which costs 3 bgn to issue. You can load any amount onto the card when you buy it.

You can only buy a transport card at the offices at the following addresses: burgasbus.info.

The fare with the e-card costs 1,30 bgn. It is valid for 45 minutes and for any number of transfers between buses.

Ticket validity

The above prices and tickets are valid only for Burgas city buses (including line 15 to the airport).

Prices are different for suburban and regional services and are described in the How to get here section.

Taxi

Taxis in Burgas run around the city and its surroundings according to the taxi meter. The prices are quite high and you will pay the following amounts:

  • 3,50 bgn - boarding tax
  • 4,50 bgn - price per 1 kilometre
  • 2,25 bgn - price for 1 minute of standing (for example at traffic lights)

For more distant places the meter is not used and the prices are fixed:

  • Pomorie - 50 bgn
  • Sunny Beach - 80 bgn
  • Nessebar - 80 bgn
  • Sozopol - 100 bgn
  • Primorsko - 33 bgn

The well-known mobile apps Uber or Bolt are not yet operating in Burgas.

Bike sharing apps

The long coastline with its straight promenade and new cycle path and the wide streets in the centre encourage cycling.

To the salt pans, for example, a bike is the only means of transport if you are not in Burgas by car.

There is one bike-sharing app in Burgas, Burgas Bikes (Google Play / App Store).

For one hour you pay 2 bgn.
