Donauinsel is one of the most popular relaxation and entertainment areas in Vienna. It is an artificial island that was created in the 1980s as part of flood control measures.
It measures 21 km in length, while the maximum width varies between 70 and 200 metres.
Beaches, restaurants and sports facilities
The Danube Island is extremely popular for every conceivable leisure activity. Here you will find many sports facilities, dozens of kilometres of cycle paths, specially adapted picnic areas, as well as grassy mini-playgrounds, especially on the side of the artificial canal Neue Donau.
But the main centre of entertainment on the Donainsel is the town of Sunken City near the Donainsel underground station and opposite the modern Vienna International Center.
On both sides of the Neue Donau canal you will find dozens of restaurants, bars and clubs open late into the night and connected by the interesting Ponte Kagrana pedestrian bridge.

The island's main entertainment centres, Sunken City and Copa Cagrana, are easily accessible by public transport:
