The Belveder Castle complex is a beautiful complex of two Baroque palaces, stables, orangery and extensive gardens.
Belveder in Vienna was built as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy, one of the most important military leaders in modern European history and generalissimo of the Austrian Habsburg armies.

Upper and Lower Belveder
The complex is dominated by two beautiful Baroque palaces at the lower and upper ends of the complex. Both palaces were designed by architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrnadt.
The Lower Belveder is a smaller and less ornate palace, but it is the oldest. It was begun in 1712 as the original summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy and completed in 1717. Until the prince's death, Lower Belveder served as his main summer residence, and today it is home to the Museum of Baroque Art.
The Upper Belvedere is one of the main attractions of the complex. The richly decorated Baroque castle, with ornate reliefs on the facade and beautiful rooms full of luxury, was completed in 1723 and was intended to serve exclusively for representative purposes.
Gardens
The dominant feature of the grounds is the more than 500-metre-long castle garden, sloping gently from the upper to the lower Belvedere. The precision of the French-style landscaping is breathtaking. The beds in geometrically precise patterns are complemented by cascading staircases flanked by many sculptures, decorative stone formations and ponds.
Just below the upper Belvedere, you can admire a breathtaking cascading fountain.
