Old Parliament House

The Old Parliament House, formerly known as the "Provisional Parliament", was the main meeting place of the Australian Parliament between 1927, when all proceedings moved to Canberra from Melbourne, and 1988, when the New Parliament House opened.
This building was started in 1923 and completed in 1927.
Museum of Australian Democracy
Today, the building no longer serves government purposes, but it does house the rather large Museum of Australian Democracy.
Discover exhibitions dedicated to the building of the Commonwealth of Australia, one of the oldest non-European democracies in the world, in the original rooms of the old Parliament.
The exhibit includes various items related to the proceedings of Parliament, numerous texts, historical photographs and films.
The tour will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
Admission and opening hours
