What to do in Albania

Albania

Why go to Albania and what activities can you do there?

Trekking

The best hiking infrastructure is probably to be found in the Albanian Alps in the north of the country and in the mountains between Berat and Përmeti in the south. The mountains can be found all over Albania.

You can go into the mountains independently, for example in the Albanian Alps you will find good hiking signs.

It should be noted that in some areas there is poor signal coverage and the countryside is often very sparsely populated, so it may not be easy to get help in case of complications.

Swimming and beaches

The most beautiful beaches can be found on the Albanian Riviera between the Llogara and Sarandë saddles. Lake Ohrid or Lake Prespa can also be used for swimming, as can certain spots on Lake Skadar.

Adrenaline sports

Albania also offers many different adrenaline sports. You will find paragliding (e.g. at the Llogara National Park) or rafting (e.g. on the Osumi River, can be arranged from Berat) or canyoning (also on the Osumi River).

Kayaking

You can rent a kayak at the Karabas Peninsula, for example, where you can explore one of the many sea caves or visit otherwise inaccessible beaches.

Thermal springs

Albania's thermal springs have been in vogue since Roman times, and in the 20th century, spas have sprung up at some of them (e.g. Nosi Park in Llixhat e Elbasanit or the spas near Peshkopie, Fushë-Kruja and Leskovik).

In many places in the Albanian mountains you can also find free outdoor baths (one of these baths is in Benjë near Përmeti).
